INTERLAKEN - Two weeks before Easter the snow line in the Jungfrau region sat well above the villages. Grindelwald and Wengen had patchy lower slopes. Higher glaciers and the usual snow-making kit kept the main pistes open.

Operators have stopped promising a postcard at 1,200 metres in April. They sell the railway and the high snow instead. That pitch works on a cold week. It fails in rain.

Trains before cars

SBB will later add carriages for the holiday peak. For now the question is weather, not seats. Our Easter travel report picks up the timetable.
