ZURICH - Voters rejected the Cash is freedom initiative, 54.4 percent to 45.6 percent, with 9 full cantons in favour and the rest against. They accepted the federal decree on Swiss currency and cash supply by 73.4 percent to 26.6 percent, with every canton yes. Turnout on the connected items was 55.4 percent.
Retailers said nothing would change at the till this week. The SNB still prints notes. The political change is a constitutional duty to keep cash available, not a ban on card-only experiments in car parks.
A deciding question unused
Because the initiative failed, the deciding question did not have to choose between texts. The tax software story from the same ballot is in our Monday report.
