BERN - Cantonal energy offices said mid-July peaks now include a visible afternoon cooling load in the large cities. Older blocks with small windows and no external shade fare worst. Newer heat-pump systems that were specified for winter heating are not all sized, or legally used, for summer cooling.
The Federal Statistical Office's later heat-pump census, in our September report, will show how fast the stock is changing at the new-build end. July is about the stock that has not changed.
