LUCERNE - Easter Monday put crowds on the promenades in Lucerne, along Lake Zurich and on the Montreux quays. Water temperatures stayed in the range that only the committed call inviting. Cafes put tables out anyway. They were full.

Families treated the day as a public-park holiday with better views. Mountain railways ran extra services toward Rigi and Pilatus. Snow still sat on the higher paths.

Then the working week returns

SBB expected a packed late-afternoon return toward the plateau. School holidays in several cantons still had days to run. The lake does not invoice that. The railway does.
