BERN - The Federal Council gave party leaders a closed briefing on the draft Switzerland-EU package, covering wage protection, a safeguard on immigration, electricity and whether any vote should need a cantonal majority. Negotiations with Brussels had been brought to a close in December 2024. Domestic law is the remaining mountain.
The SVP wants a mandatory referendum. The centre and the FDP want the package to survive. Unions will judge it on posting rules and inspections, not on speeches about stability.
