BERN - The Federal Council restated its double no on Thursday, citing cost and administration for civic duty and a risk to family businesses for the climate inheritance tax. Ministers asked voters to treat both as well-meant and unworkable.
Yes campaigners called the briefing a pile-on. In Swiss terms it was a routine. The government opposes most initiatives that reach the ballot. It does not always win. This time the polls suggest it will.
Winter session is already being written
If Sunday is a double no, Monday's winter session will open with budget papers and a warning not to gloat. That warning will be ignored in private.
