BASEL - City heat offices in Basel, Geneva and Zurich issued the first serious protocols of July on Saturday. Cooling centres in older neighbourhoods opened for the afternoon. Hospitals reported the usual rise in calls about exhaustion among the elderly.
Night temperatures in dense courts did not fall as far as the lake front. That gap is now part of urban planning, not only of weather talk.
