GENEVA - The First of May column in Geneva mixed union sections with tenant groups, as in Zurich. Speakers said the latest wage round looked decent on paper until the rent landed. French-speaking banners made the same point the Zurich march made at noon.
Police described a large and mostly peaceful crowd. A handful of flares by the evening were the television exception.
Two cities, one arithmetic
Housing policy sits with communes. Wage policy sits with contracts. The march tried to hold both in one chant. Our Zurich report is the German version of the same sentence.
