MONTREUX - Mid-festival Saturday put more people on the quays than the barriers had been drawn for. Police called the mood dense and manageable. A medical tent treated the usual mix of heat and alcohol. CFF added carriages toward Lausanne on the last services.

A few visitors missed those trains and slept in the station, which is a July tradition nobody puts in the brochure. Locals who work the bars said takings were strong and feet were worse.

Still a week to run

The festival continues until 19 July. The town's patience is a renewable resource with a known limit. That limit is the night the last train is also full.
