ZURICH - Thursday afternoon at Zurich Hauptbahnhof already looked like a holiday Friday. Families stacked luggage toward the Gotthard and Simplon long-distance trains. SBB said load factors on those axes were high and that reservation was no longer a courtesy.
Staff at the information desk repeated the same sentence: the next guaranteed seat is tomorrow morning, and even that is thinning. Road traffic toward the tunnels will rise overnight.
