SCHAFFHAUSEN - Cantonal authorities wrote to SBB asking that chronically late Stuttgart to Zurich trains be split in Singen, just north of the border, so passengers can continue on Swiss services. Basel has already used that logic: some DB long-distance trains now terminate there rather than infect the Swiss timetable.
In 2024 only about 64 percent of DB long-distance trains arrived on time. SBB's figure was 93.2 percent. Those two numbers do not mix well at a junction.
A small canton with a large clock
Schaffhausen sits on a line that looks minor on a national map and feels central if you live there. The people of Schaffhausen have a right to connections that exist in the brochure, the letter said. SBB had not answered in public when the letter circulated.
