ZURICH - Three city police officers were injured on Tuesday evening at Oberer Letten and taken for hospital checks, Stadtpolizei Zurich said. The operations centre logged the call at about 6.30 p.m. Two men on Wasserwerkstrasse in Kreis 6 were fighting with bottles and chairs, and one was threatening the other with a broken glass bottle.
Officers found the men still there. When they tried to check the suspected attacker, he resisted and struck them. Police used an irritant spray to get him under control. The three injured officers then went to hospital for examination. The man, a 19-year-old from Guinea with no fixed residence in Switzerland, was arrested. He had already been hurt in the fight with the other man and was treated in hospital as well. Police said they are still looking into that earlier fight.
What the bulletin does and does not say
The city statement names the place, the time, the force used and the custody. It does not give a motive, and it does not say how serious the officers' injuries are beyond the hospital check. That is the whole public account on Tuesday night. Further charges, if any, come later.
