BERN - Supporters of the Climate Fund initiative spent Thursday trying to translate 0.5 to 1 percent of GDP into buses, heat pumps and slope repairs. Opponents translated it into a permanent new spending machine. The Federal Council has recommended rejection. No major bourgeois party has broken ranks.

Green and Social Democratic speakers said the country had voted down other climate tools in 2025 and could not keep doing so. That argument reminds voters of losses. It does not always reverse them.
