BERN - A day after the Swiss National Bank argued that UBS already holds enough capital for the government's foreign-unit plan, members of the finance committees said the finding would inform hearings, not replace them. Several centre deputies called the SNB paper a useful corrective to the bank's larger estimates.

UBS continues to dispute the details. FINMA has stayed closer to the government's caution than to the bank's. That alignment is the political fact of late January.

Committee work will run through the summer. By September the finance minister was criticising a softer committee text. January was the moment the official arithmetic first had a public author.
