BERN - Party groups held their pre-session meetings on Saturday with the same three files on the desk: compulsory health costs, farm payments, and the first detailed outlines of post-Credit Suisse bank rules. The sitting opens on Monday, 3 March.

The left wants federal cost brakes that bite providers. The right wants patients to feel more of the bill through deductibles. The centre wants a compromise that can survive a referendum, which is another way of saying it wants time.

Session time is not campaign time

Whips reminded everyone that 2025 already has more ballot Sundays ahead. The opening day will sound like a continuation of January's premium envelopes.
