BERN - Households opened January premium bills that reflect a 6 percent average rise in compulsory health insurance. The mean monthly premium is CHF 378.70, about CHF 21.60 more than in 2024. Adults pay CHF 449.20 on average. Health minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider had called the increase smaller than the 8.7 percent jump a year earlier.
The gap between cantons is wide. Ticino's average rose 10.5 percent, to CHF 472.70. Basel-Stadt rose 1.5 percent, to CHF 456.20. People who switched funds or raised deductibles in November will see a milder number than the headline.
A cost argument that never leaves Bern
Parties already lined up the phrases they will use in the March session: more federal cost control on the left, higher deductibles on the right. The invoices will do more campaigning than any press conference.
