GRINDELWALD - Hotels in Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen said the first week of July filled faster than a normal early July, as visitors left hot cities for the Jungfrau region. Higher trails were busy. Village streets were busier. Ice cream outsold packed lunches.
Staffing remains the squeeze. Several houses still closed kitchens on one weekday. Guests who booked for mountains accepted a shorter menu more readily than they accepted a slow train.
Glaciers in the brochure, debris in the memory
After Blatten, some guests asked about slope safety unprompted. Guides answered with maps, not slogans. That is new, and it will last.
