BERN - The National Council spent Tuesday on federal contributions to cantonal individual premium reductions. Several cantons, including Geneva and Ticino, say the 2025 rise pushed more households over the line where the subsidy is supposed to help. Others say Bern should not write a blank cheque for cantonal health design.
Ticino's 10.5 percent jump was named more than once. Basel-Stadt's tiny rise was named as a contrast, not as comfort.
A brake that does not brake
Cost-control bills remain stuck in the same session. Subsidies are what you do when the brake fails. That is not a slogan anyone liked, which is why it kept being repeated.
