SION - Valais tourism mayors met in Sion to discuss the 28 September decree on cantonal taxes for second homes. Almost all want the legal option. Almost none want to preview a rate that would make a Geneva owner sell.

The Loetschental's disaster still sits over every conversation about mountain futures. A tax on empty beds is a tool. It is not a reconstruction plan.

A yes with a wince

The national campaign can afford a clean yes. The local campaign cannot. That split will survive the night of the count.
