LAVAUX - Winegrowers on the Lavaux terraces began the harvest in the third week of September after a warm late summer pushed sugars up. Volumes looked average. The lake path shared space with tractors, which is the point of a living vineyard.
Valais, a little behind on some higher sites, watched the same weather with a different slope. Frost in April is either a footnote or a hole in the vintage. Growers will know at the press.
Tourists want a photograph
They can have one, if they stand still when a trailer comes. Harvest is not a festival. It is a deadline with a view.
