CHUR - Mayors from Engadine communes and the Davos hinterland met in Chur to sketch what a new cantonal tax on second homes could look like if the federal decree passes later in the year. They want revenue. They also want the Basel dentist who owns a chalet to keep buying at the butcher.

Many mountain communes have more cold beds than schoolchildren. Taxing those beds harder is popular until the bakery's winter customers vanish.

The federal text is not yet a campaign in every valley. By August it will be. Our later October report is that meeting with invoices attached.
