BERN - Communes spent Tuesday on the unglamorous half of 1 August: fire permits, tram extras, and a police plan for people who drink near a bonfire. Official speeches will mention cohesion and security. The crowds will mention whether the sausages ran out.
The Ruetli meadow will do the televised version. Most of the country will do a field at the edge of town.
A political August
Neutrality posters will share some of those fields with the flags. The later National Day report is here.
